"I am interested in making works that, in different ways, acknowledge and play withtheir positions as artworks. Through painting, drawing, sculpture and photography, I employ quotation as a tactic through which figurative elements can acknowledge and engage with the weight of the history of art.
The four paintings in this exhibition have been made during my residency at Headspace, and all are based on imagery from one Ukiyo-ye by Hokusai: 'Weeping Cherry and Bullfinch’."
Ann-Marie James
Ms James is HeadSpace's 6th artist in residence and a fine artist from London, UK. and her residency runs from 5th ~ 29th April 2011. http://www.headspace.jp/en/2011/04/01/ann-marie-james/
